poem-16
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out from the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the
dreary desert sand of dead habit;
Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action-
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.
- Gitanjali - Song Offerings - Rabindranath Tagore
The legend of TULSI: Symbol of chaste devotion
The legend of TULSI: Symbol of chaste devotion
Tulasi kalyanam(marriage) happens on the 11th day of the waxing moon in the month of karthikai( just after deepavali. The day tulasi gets married to Vishnu is called devothami ekadasi or the awakening of devas.
Tulasi was married to Rakshasha king Shankachuda, who was a big terror. Tulasi being a bhakthai (devotee) of Vishnu and her chastity made the king invincible. As usual devas went to their savior Vishnu for a solution. Again as usual Vishnu lived up to his anti-hero drama. He took the form of Shankachuda and embraced Tulasi making her lose her chastity. Again as usual tulasi, when she came to know this intelligent work, cursed Vishnu to become black stone. But Magnanimous Vishnu gave her a boon, stating that he will marry her every year and this very day marks the beginning of Marriage season for Hindus.

chennai to have Lord Venkateswara temple similar to Tirupati
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which manages the world-famous Lord Sri Venkateswara temple in Tirupati, proposes to construct a similar temple near Chennai, a top TTD official said here today.
TTD Chairman D K Adikesavulu Naidu told reporters here that the Board planned to construct the temple near Chennai on 10 acres of land along the scenic East Coast Road (ECR).
The effort was aimed at catering to thousands of pilgrims thronging the temple town in Andhra Pradesh, but forced to wait for a long period, sometimes even days, before getting a 'darshan' of the presiding deity, he said.
The proposed temple would have all facilities as in Tirupati, like tonsuring and a marriage hall, besides a library, he said, adding that the Board would seek the state government's help to get land for the purpose.
Grim power situation in TN
There are also inherent disadvantages, both resource wise and logistic wise for TN. There are no Coal deposits (other than lignite) and the cost of transportation of coal from coal rich states to TN is a costly affair. And imported coal more expensive than Indian coal. Hence, all major power projects are coming up in coal rich States or States which are nearer to the coal rich States.
This being the case, how the State gears up and plans for the current and future requirement is very important. And obviously, looks like we have missed the bus. Few years back TN was in a comfortable position and used to claim that we are a power surplus state and this was used as a card against Karnataka. But now, this has totally reversed now - we are facing constant and long load shedding on a daily basis. And to offset some of the deficit, TNEB is importing power at exhorbitant prices!!!!
